This study examines the impact of community engagement programs (CEPs) on the development of essential soft skills among Indonesian students, specifically focusing on communication, leadership, teamwork, confidence, and initiative as key competencies for workforce readiness. Employing a qualitative approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with students participating in various CEPs. Findings reveal significant improvements across all skill areas, with notable advancements in communication and leadership skills due to the experiential, real-world nature of CEPs. Participants reported enhanced abilities in public speaking, clarity in expression, adaptive leadership, and collaborative problem-solving, highlighting CEPs’ effectiveness in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Additionally, the programs fostered personal growth, with students displaying increased confidence and initiative, crucial for career adaptability. The study suggests practical implications for educational institutions and policymakers, recommending the structured integration of CEPs into curricula to provide a balanced skill set for students. Limitations include reliance on self-reported data and limited geographic scope, indicating the need for future research with broader samples and longitudinal assessments to validate findings further. Overall, this study underscores CEPs as a transformative educational tool that equips students with essential, transferable skills for complex professional environments.
